Over 94% of the Texas prison population will be released
What Challenges Do People Face?
Something that many people struggle with when they leave prison is the loss of community. They go from communal living, eating, and – if they are so blessed – a supportive church environment, and then they re-enter a community that is very unlike the one they left. It can be a daunting process to approach a new church and ask to join the congregation – especially if you have just come out of prison – meeting new people means answering personal questions about where you have come from, and many people are not ready to have those conversations immediately after release.
Unfortunately, that means many people fall through the cracks and do not find their place in a church community, which often leads to falling back into their old community and reoffending. We wanted to help create a place of sanctity and healing outside the walls, where people can rest, rebuild, and re-enter society with support and strength that is rooted in God.
